HYRBID: Equity, Diversity & Inclusion Series - Session 2: To my daughter: Resilience in the face of injustice

Join Rumana Monzur and author, Denise Chong, for a conversation about the book, "Out of Darkness: Rumana Monzur's Journey through Betrayal, Tyranny and Abuse" (forthcoming April 2024) which chronicles Monzur's coming back from a brutal domestic assault that left her blind. The attack, which happened in Bangladesh, garnered international headlines and drew attention to intimate partner violence as a global issue. In reflecting on Monzur's search for justice, Chong writes: "[W]hat systems, values and institutions enable and perpetuate violence that in effect give license to mete out harm and that depend on retribution and punishment by the law to address the problem? Justice would be better served if girls and women were not harmed or abused in the first instance."
