B.C. bar association urging action on ‘acute’ issues with legal aid, auto insurance

The Canadian Bar Association, B.C. Branch (CBABC) is asking the B.C. government to increase funding for legal aid and to make changes to the recently transformed auto insurance system in the province as part of a number of recommendations it says will help to serve modern needs and lead to the efficient resolution of legal conflicts in B.C.

Judicial Appointment to the Supreme Court of BC

Veronica Jackson, senior counsel at the Ministry of the Attorney General of British Columbia, is appointed a judge of the Supreme Court of British Columbia in Vancouver. She replaces Justice H.J. Holmes, who was appointed Associate Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of British Columbia on June 21, 2018.

Legal Aid Services Review

Attorney General David Eby, QC, has engaged practising lawyer Jamie Maclaren QC to conduct an independent review of British Columbia’s legal aid service delivery system, including a report with recommendations, by December 31, 2018.
