The Rural Education and Access to Lawyers Initiative (REAL) is an access to justice initiative established to address the current and projected shortage of legal services in small communities and rural areas of the province and the related consequences on access to justice for British Columbians.
In 2019, to maximize funds for as many students as possible, REAL is embarking on a new funding partnership model. Firms interested in accessing funding of second year law student through the program will need to match funds either through an organization or by self matching.
The REAL program’s primary focus continues to be to promote the option of establishing a career in a smaller community. With this new partnership, the community pays a larger role in welcoming the student.
Applications for Summer 2019 will open at the beginning of January and close on February 20. More info will be available on our webpage soon.
