Vancouver, BC – The Canadian Bar Association, BC Branch announces Clare Jennings as its President for the 2021-22 term. Clare’s term begins as our economy continues to re-open and opportunities return to meet in-person with lawyers in all regions and practice areas.
“During the last 18 months, CBABC has become an indispensable asset and source of essential, up-to-date information for the legal community.” said Clare. “I want to build on that by connecting with lawyers across the province to learn about the unique challenges and opportunities they face in their work.”
Growing up immersed in diverse cultures—from rural BC to Ghana and Germany—Clare has a sensitivity to diversity and a proclivity for inclusion, themes she hopes to amplify through her presidency.
“Our association is actively committed to making the profession and the practice of law more inclusive and accessible to everyone,” said the new CBABC president. “I look forward to consulting with our members to build on our leadership in this area.”
A CBA member since 2006, Clare has been involved as executive of the CBABC Criminal Justice-Victoria Section and served on several committees, including Access to Justice and REAL Advisory. On her path to the presidency, she served on the CBABC Board of Directors since 2018 as Director, Secretary-Treasurer and First Vice President.
Clare has been a provincial Crown Counsel in Victoria and Colwood since her call to the bar in 2008. She has a Bachelor of Arts and a Master of Arts from McGill University and earned her law degree at the University of Victoria.
She has been involved with the Victoria Law Day committee for 10 years, including four years as chair. Clare co-coached the McIntyre Moot team at the University of Victoria for over a decade and has been a Law School Mentor and Articling Principal.
The Canadian Bar Association is the professional organization representing more than 36,000 lawyers, judges and law students across Canada with over 7,300 members in British Columbia.
