Appointment of Judges to the Provincial Court of British Columbia

It is my great pleasure and privilege to announce that the Lieutenant Governor in Council has signed Orders in Council appointing to the Court Mariane Armstrong, Michelle Daneliuk and Monica McParland as full time judges and Wilfred Klinger and William MacDonald as senior judges.

The three full time judges are:

Judge Monica McParland – will be sworn in on August 28, 2017. She will be assigned to the Interior Region with Chambers in Kelowna.

Judge McParland earned an LLB cum laude from the University of Ottawa in 1998. She has held positions as federal and provincial Crown counsel. She joined Pushor Mitchell LLP in Kelowna where she was initially an agent for the federal Crown conducting drug prosecutions. In March 2014, she shifted her practice area to family law.

Judge Mariane Ruth Armstrong – will be sworn in on September 6, 2017. She will be assigned to the Interior Region with Chambers in Kamloops.

Judge Armstrong received an LLB from Dalhousie University. She has worked as Crown counsel for the Criminal Justice Branch in Salmon Arm and Vernon from 1989 to 2005 and from 2006 to the present. She currently serves as Administrative Crown Counsel for Salmon Arm.

Judge Michelle Daneliuk – will be sworn in on September 6, 2017. She will be assigned to the Interior Region and with Chambers in Penticton.

Judge Daneliuk received a Bachelor of Laws from the University of Alberta. She worked as a criminal defense lawyer in Edmonton for 10 years before relocating to Victoria in 2005, where she established an office as a sole practitioner in criminal law. Her practice has primarily consisted of large cases involving multiple defendants.

The two senior judges are:

Judge Wilfred Klinger – the appointment is effective on August 21, 2017 and he will be assigned to sit throughout the province to assist with short term needs of the court. He is being re-appointed for a one-year term as a senior judge. He was initially appointed as a judge in 1979 and became a senior judge in 2009.

Judge William Gordon MacDonald – the appointment is effective on August 21, 2017 and he will be assigned to sit throughout the province to assist with short term needs of the court. He is being reappointed for a one-year term. He has served as a judge since 1982 and became a senior judge in 2009.
