There is an upcoming CBABC appointment vacancy on the Board of the British Columbia Law Institute (BCLI) for a three-year term, starting in September 2020.
The BCLI promotes the clarification and simplification of the law and its adaptation to modern social needs, promotes the improvement of the administration of justice and respect for the rule of law, and promotes and carries out scholarly legal research. The BCLI includes its division, The Canadian Centre for Elder Law (CCEL).
BCLI is especially interested in a candidate who meets one or more of the following characteristics:
- is from outside the Lower Mainland
- is from a large firm
- has experience in family law or corporate law
- has a strong understanding of governance, audit/finance, community & professional engagement, or communications
The position requires a time commitment in terms of materials review for four regularly scheduled meetings of the board per year at the Allard School of Law at UBC. Occasionally a special meeting is required to deal with matters that arise between regular meetings.
Members participate in one committee, which usually meets twice a year. A member of the board also participates in each BCLI project. Each of these committees and projects has differing time commitment requirements. Additional information about the BCLI and board activities can be obtained by contacting the BCLI Executive Director at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Those who wish to be considered for this volunteer opportunity must be CBA members and must maintain CBA membership for the duration of the appointment.
Please submit expressions of interest to CBABC Executive Director Kerry L. Simmons, QC at email@example.com by Thursday, August 20.
