Response from BC Government: LOTA Filing Deadline Extension

The government heard from legal professionals that more time is needed to meet new requirements to file under the Land Owner Transparency Registry, and has extended the deadline an additional year to November 30, 2022.

Land Owner Transparency Registry filing deadline extended

​The B.C. government will be extending the deadline for pre-existing owners to file with the Land Owner Transparency Registry, giving reporting bodies with an interest in land more time to file a transparency report without incurring penalties.

Justice Jamal was lauded for his strong intellect and work ethic, as well as his clarity of expression, curiosity, collegiality, humility, supportiveness and respect for equality and extensive pro bono work by federal Justice Minister David Lametti, Ontario Attorney General Doug Downey and the heads of the Law Society of Ontario, the Canadian Bar Association and the Federation of Law Societies of Canada. Justice Jamal is also, by all accounts, “an all-around good guy,” Downey said.

Letter to Minister of Finance: Land Owner Transparency Act Deadline

The recently enacted Land Owner Transparency Act, SBC 2019, c.23 (“LOTA”) requires that certain registered owners of real property interests in British Columbia file initial transparency reports disclosing their interest holders by November 30, 2021.
