Call for Volunteers: BC Council to Reduce Elder Abuse

  • November 08, 2022

CBABC seeks candidates from which it will appoint its next representative to the Council to Reduce Elder Abuse who will succeed Krista James for a term beginning February 1, 2023 and continuing until August 31, 2025.

CREA fosters collaboration and coordination to advance the prevention of elder abuse including recognition, prevention, and response by sharing information, raising public awareness, and supporting professional development and capacity-building across BC. CREA is made up of representatives from various sectors including the finance, policing, health, and law, and sustains its work thanks to the financial support provided by the BC Ministry of Health.

The CBABC representative on the Council to Reduce Elder Abuse Council is present to bring their knowledge of Elder Law and the legal impact of abuse, neglect, and self-neglect on society. It is expected that the representative will attend 3 or possibly 4 meetings a year either in-person or by teleconference.  There may be an opportunity to serve on an ad hoc working group or task force as the work evolves. Funding for the Council has come from the Ministry of Health to provide a forum to monitor the implementation of the “Together to Reduce Elder Abuse” Strategy which was adopted in 2013.

CBABC will select a representative who meets these qualifications:

  • CBA member who will maintain membership throughout the term of service
  • Minimum 7 years call to the Bar in British Columbia
  • Experience in presenting legal information to non-lawyer audiences

CBABC members who wish to be considered for this volunteer opportunity, please submit your letter of interest and resume to the attention of Kerry L. Simmons, KC, Executive Director, CBABC, 10th Floor 845 Cambie Street, Vancouver BC V6B 5T3. Email: ea@cbabc.org. Deadline 5 pm, January 15, 2023.
