CBABC Agreements with International Bar Associations

The Canadian Bar Association BC Branch enters into agreements with international bar associations in order to strengthen bilateral cooperation between legal professions, promote business opportunities, and increase the friendly exchange of information so as to develop the legal systems and economies of international regions.

Agreement Signed with Lawyers of Hunan Province, China - July 23, 2002

The lawyers of Hunan Province are interested in developing a professional relationship with the lawyers of British Columbia. To further that relationship, CBABC President David Paul (2002/2003) and Executive Director Frank Kraemer were invited and hosted by the Hunan Bar. The resulting series of meetings and discussions culminated in an agreement to cooperate to further the economic and professional interests of lawyers and businesses in both countries.

There are a number of investment opportunities available in Hunan Province now, and it may be advantageous to our members who may have clients who are interested, to investigate these potential opportunities. Two documents of interest are available for review at the Branch Office:

  • List of Projects Open to Foreign Investment in Hunan, China
  • Hunan Provincial Department of Foreign Trade and Economic Cooperation

If you are interested in reviewing either of these, or finding out more about the cooperative arrangement between lawyers in British Columbia and Hunan Province, please contact Caroline Nevin, Executive Director, at the CBA BC Branch at 604.687.3404, toll free 1.888.687.3404 or cnevin@bccba.org.
