Submission to Select Standing Committee on Finance and Government Services: 2022 Budget Consultations

  • September 28, 2021

CBABC made our annual submission to the Select Standing Committee on Finance and Government Services, following an oral presentation made on September 2, 2021.

CBABC requests an investment by government to make life more affordable for British Columbians and improve access to justice by investing in these four areas:

  1. Legal Aid Funding – to increase scope of family law;
  2. Funding to implement the Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples Act (“DRIPA”);
  3. Funding Restorative Justice Associations; and
  4. Advancing the Digital Transformation of Legal and Justice Systems.

CBABC’s Agenda for Justice outlines the key initiatives for improving legislation and policy reform. This submission highlights priority areas for funding by the provincial government in the upcoming budget cycle. Briefing Notes on each area are linked below.

The Standing Committee invites organizations to present orally and provide written submissions in support of key initiatives for government funding. CBABC participates in this process each year, with recommendations based on priorities of members.
