Updates to Inclusiveness in Federal Judicial Appointments Questionnaire

  • October 12, 2022

The Minister of Justice has amended the Questionnaire for Federal Judicial Appointments, reflecting feedback provided by the Canadian Bar Association – BC Branch, CBA, the Canadian Judicial Council, and the Office of the Commissioner for Foreign Affairs. The changes contain inclusive language around self-declaration and create a more efficient approach while maintaining a comprehensive assessment of candidates.

CBABC applauds these revisions, as they are intended to encourage more individuals to apply to the federally-appointed courts in each province. They build on reforms in 2016 to increase openness, transparency, accountability, and diversity of Canada’s judiciary.
