Impact of Practice Direction amendments on class actions

  • April 29, 2025

On April 25, CBABC delivered a submission to the BC Supreme Court regarding the impact of October 17, 2023 amendments made to certain practice directions on class action proceedings. These amendments eliminated default case management of class actions, making B.C. the sole outlier among provinces where class actions are commonly litigated.

CBABC asks the Court to consider reinstating default case management of class actions. This process will reduce delays, promote the adjudication or other resolution of disputes and minimize the use of Court and party resources.

This submission draws from the expertise of the CBABC Class Action Section.
