Law Student Mentorship Program

The CBABC Law Student Mentorship Program is run in partnership with BC’s three law schools: Peter A. Allard School of Law at the University of British Columbia, Thompson Rivers University Faculty of Law, and University of Victoria Faculty of Law.

First year law students join this program for personal growth and professional advancement as they start their legal journey. Mentees can prioritize their matching criteria, including area of practice, work environment, geographic location, race, gender identity or sexual orientation.

+

Participants in this program are expected to connect in person or virtually at least once per month during the eight month mentoring relationship (November to June).

Mentors are expected to be reasonably available by email or phone should their mentee reach out with questions or to schedule a meeting.

+

Mentees must be CBABC members and be attending school at one of BC’s three law schools.

This program is primarily intended for first year students, but matches will be made with second year students if there are sufficient mentors.

Mentees are expected to initiate contact with their mentor. Mentees should be specific with their mentors about what they hope to achieve through this mentoring relationship.

+

Mentors may be practicing, non-practicing or retired members of the Law Society of BC.

Although mentees are expected to initiate contact, mentors can be proactive by giving their mentee extra opportunities to connect. For example, mentors might invite mentees to CBABC or other industry events or programming.
