Charter of the Forest Night

King John was dead and his infant son Henry III was King.

But the People of England had awakened to the new relationship between King and His Subjects. The rights of subjects to enjoy the products of the forests had been significantly reduced. Now, in another momentous charter, the tentative steps taken in the Magna Carta were expanded and entrenched.

The Charter of the Forest was proclaimed on November 6, 1217. It is with us today.

All this will be celebrated at the Law Courts Inn, with fare inspired by medieval cuisine, on Charter of the Forest Night, Monday, November 20, 2017.

The evening’s entertainment will include medieval fare, music, a farcical skit, and special guest speaker Thomas Berger, QC.
