Seeking a visionary labour relations senior leader to join our People and Culture team as the Executive Director, Labour Relations.

EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR, LABOUR RELATIONS (1 Position: Victoria or Vancouver)

Joining our 5000+ employee organization in this new role, the Executive Director, Labour Relations will establish and maintain progressive and positive Labour Relations while advancing key strategic corporate priorities. Reporting into the VP, People and Culture, you will provide subject matter expertise within People Services including interpretation of the collective agreement and input into the development and application of employment policies and practices, aligned with the collective agreement and labour laws. In addition, with your expertise in this you will:

  • Lead the development of collective bargaining strategy through a collaborative approach with leaders throughout the company, consistent with corporate priorities as defined by the Executive Management Committee;
  • Drive and lead progressive contract negotiations that engages leaders and people services professionals;
  • Establish a governance structure to support progressive labour relations that engages members of the Executive Management Committee and senior leaders throughout the Company on grievance management and arbitrations;
  • Work collaboratively with leaders and the BCFWMU in effective and respectful organizational change management;
  • Be the central point of contact for:
    • the relationship with BCFWMU officials; and
    • content creation and training delivery on labour and employment matters that promote a productive and progressive labour relations environment;
  • Establish and maintain labour and employment performance metrics and report out on the same.
  • Other duties as required.

Technically, you possess thorough knowledge of employment law and labour relations principles, theories, practices, strategies and processes related to the strategy, resolution and management of grievances, arbitrations and hearings. In addition, you are well versed in your knowledge of the BC Labour Relations Code, Human Rights legislation and other relevant legislation, regulatory frameworks, environment and political dynamics
