SENIOR LEGAL COURSE SPECIALIST POSITION, Sauder School of Business Real Estate Division, University of British Columbia
ABOUT THE SAUDER REAL ESTATE DIVISION: The UBC Sauder Real Estate Division (“RED”) provides pre-licensing courses and examinations required for licensing in British Columbia under the Real Estate Services Act and the Mortgage Brokers Act. Courses include real estate brokerage, trading services, strata and rental property management, and mortgage brokerage, which are offered on behalf of the British Columbia Financial Services Authority. The RED also offers a number of other real estate programs, including the pre-licensing and mandatory continuing professional development programs for real estate licensing in Saskatchewan, mandatory continuing professional development courses for real estate licensees in British Columbia, and mortgage broker designation programs across Canada. The RED is also actively seeking expansion of real estate licensing programs into other provinces, such as Alberta.
JOB DESCRIPTION: This position offers an interesting, unique, and rewarding opportunity to apply one’s legal knowledge outside of a traditional legal practice and the “billable hour”. As a member of a diversified team of professionals (including five lawyers and numerous urban land economists and education specialists), the successful candidate will use their legal knowledge, skills, and abilities to assist a well-established education provider to achieve a variety of strategic and business objectives. Responsibilities include:
- researching and drafting educational content on various real estate related legal topics;
- collaborating with external legal counsel, curriculum developers and instructional support units to facilitate the delivery of the RED’s educational programs;
- conducting curriculum reviews and needs assessments; and
- recruiting instructors and subject matter experts, as required.
In addition, teaching opportunities within RED may be available.
The successful candidate will manage staff, instructors, and consultants directly and indirectly, including law student tutors. Furthermore, this position offers the opportunity to work with diverse participants in the real estate and educational community in a supportive, inclusive, dynamic, diverse, and collegial environment. QUALIFICATIONS: Individuals of all experience levels are encouraged to apply; however, preference will be given to lawyers with 2+ years of experience in a real estate related practice. A successful candidate will have strong organizational and prioritization skills, excellent written and verbal communication skills, and an interest in legal education.
SALARY RANGE: $76,543 - $95,000, commensurate with experience.
