Meeting Title/Topic:Fast-tracking Major Projects: Perspectives from BC and Canada
Synopsis: Significant global changes and uncertainty in existing trade regimes has resulted in both federal and provincial governments introducing new legislation to fast-track certain major projects. There have also been significant changes to the Impact Assessment Act since 2024, and reform to streamline processes under that Act are underway. In this lunch and learn session, Tom McCarthy, Ian Ketcheson, Merle Alexander, KC, and Chris Roine discuss recent legislation and reform initiatives aimed at fast-tracking major projects in Canada.

Meeting Title/Topic: Planning for Prosperity and Protection in Northwest British Columbia
Synopsis: The Province of British Columbia, in partnership with five First Nations—the Tahltan, Taku River Tlingit, Kaska Dena, Gitanyow, and Nisga'a Nations—launched consultations in 2025 regarding land use planning covering approximately 16 million hectares in the northwestern corner of the province, near the Alaska and Yukon borders.

The plans created through these processes define what can occur on the land base, identifying important areas for both Indigenous-led conservation and areas for potential natural resource development to create a wealth of new opportunities for economic development. Presenters include Tania Demchuk and David Muter.
