Our Work

CBABC advocates for issues important to our members, who develop and decide CBABC policy and law reform positions.

We engage the BC legislature through written submissions, committee appearances and informal meetings. Through regular consultation with the provincial government, the Law Society of British Columbia, the courts and other stakeholders, CBABC leads initiatives on behalf of the legal profession and in partnership with our justice system partners.

Regulation of the profession

Since the government’s concept for a single regulator for lawyers, notaries and paralegals was introduced in Spring 2022, CBABC has been advocating on behalf of the profession.

AGENDA FOR JUSTICE

CBABC recommendations to government in several areas of justice and legislation that will benefit British Columbians.

TRUTH & RECONCILIATION

CBABC has developed a Reconciliation Action Plan in response to the Calls to Action issued by the Truth & Reconciliation Commission.

LEGAL AID

A leading priority for CBABC is continuous advocacy for increased funding of legal aid for the benefit of vulnerable people.

RURAL EDUCATION & ACCESS TO LAWYERS INITIATIVE

The REAL Initiative addresses lawyer shortages in BC’s small and rural communities.

VOLUNTEERING

Give back to the legal profession and stay connected by volunteering your knowledge and skills on issues that matter to you.
