Response from Attorney General and Minister of Children and Family Development: Implementation of UNCRC

  • December 05, 2023

The Attorney General and Minister of Children and Family Development responded to a submission that urged the BC government to fully implement the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child.

Appreciation was expressed for our recommendations to amend section 203 of the Family Law Act, noting they would be considered during phase two of the Act’s modernization project.

The response highlighted progress the government has made in improving access to justice for children, developing the Indigenous Self-Governance in Child and Family Services Amendment Act, and introducing new Provincial Court Family Rules that emphasize children’s participation.

CBABC has long advocated for improved access to justice for families. Children engaged in the system must be able to make informed decisions and have legal representation. We look forward to continuing to engage with the BC government on these matters.
