Presentation

Get ready to hit the ground running when the new Court of Appeal Act and Court of Appeal Rules come into effect on July 18, 2022.

Please join the Appellate Advocacy Section for a discussion with Registrar Outerbridge and Caitlin Ohama-Darcus, contributor to the Civil Appeal Handbook, about the structural, substantive, and significant procedural changes. It's more than just a reorganization and a new and improved costs tariff (though that will come up too). This discussion will leave you ready to impress with your knowledge of the new rules and alert to potential uncertainties.

This session will also be an opportunity for a refresher on electronic filing in civil and criminal appeals. Liliane Bantourakis of the Crown Appeals Division will speak to the new criminal appeal filing rules – where to find them, what they say, and what gaps remain to be filled.

Our panelists will also provide insight about the evolution of digital appeals practice beyond COVID, including such matters as the function of the condensed book, Zoom chambers, and the continuing availability of Zoom appeals.

Duration of meeting was 1.5 hours. Of this, 1.5 hours can be counted towards CPD.
