Meeting Title/Topic: Review of Current Issues in Family Law and Resources for Family Lawyers
Synopsis: At this meeting topics and issues in Family Law were discussed as well as a review of the possible changes to come to Family Law following the signing of the 1996 Convention of the Protection of Children and the 2007 Maintenence Convention. Discussion also included a review of resources availiable to Family Law Practicioners and upcoming projects and resources for family law practicioners. Erin Brook provided an update to members from the January Provincial Council Family Law Chairs Meeting as well as provided a report from the CBA National Family Law Section meeting.

Synopsis: Donna Brown M.ABS. has been a Registered Clinical Counsellor since 1996 and presented to the Family Law Section on the role counselling can play for parties in high conflict family litigation and help lawyers to better understand the non legal issues clients and their children are facing that can impact effective resolution of family cases.

Synopsis: Roland Clark, Financial Advisor discussed how a Financial Advisor could be a valuable resource for advice to both lawyer and their clients, what Advice only engagement is and how it is unique and can be helpful in situations arising from separation and divorce, a review of situations where a client may want to understand the financial landscape better and what options may be out there without any obligations and how to find the right people to assist with that, along with several other topics on financial issues in seperation/divorce.
