Meeting Title/Topic: From Regulated to Regulator
Synopsis: The CBABC Freedom of Information and Privacy Law Section invited you to join them for a lunch-hour session with Acting Information and Privacy Commissioner Drew McArthur. The Acting Commissioner talked about his extensive experience dealing with privacy and access issues – first as the former Chief Compliance and Privacy Officer at TELUS, then as a privacy and compliance consultant, and presently, as the Acting Information and Privacy Commissioner for British Columbia.

Meeting Title/Topic: Pokemon Go, The Right to be Forgotten, Children's Rights, and Other Cyber Law Issues
Synopsis: Part 1: Advising Augmented and Virtual Reality Companies (Kellen Voyer)
Augmented reality and virtual reality products are increasingly common in the digital marketplace and are challenging legal advisors with novel legal issues, questions and concerns. This presentation discussed the different legal issues facing augmented and virtual reality companies, spanning contract, tort, intellectual property and privacy, and considerations for advising companies in this space.
Part 2: Children and the Internet: Online Reputation and the Right to Be Forgotten (Yun Li-Reilly)
Children and youth constitute a particularly vulnerable group when it comes to online privacy and internet data protection. Recent developments in European law have led to discussions regarding whether the right to be forgotten as a legal principle should be adopted in North America. Yun discussed the implications of the right to be forgotten and freedom of expression in the context of the online privacy of children and youth.

Meeting Title/Topic: Privacy in 2017: Lessons from the Courts, Regulators and Legislators
Synopsis: The Freedom of Information and Privacy Law Section held a lunch-hour session where they discussed the latest legal developments in privacy, including what the courts and regulators said about solicitor-client privilege, implied consent, the retention of metadata, CASL fines and privacy torts (to name a few).
