Synopsis: Meeting with Pension Regulator Office
The members of the Section met at the offices of the Financial Institutions Commission of BC to meet with the Pension Superintendent and his analysts to discuss recent legislative developments in pension standards legislation and regulation.

Synopsis: Tom Anderson, Q.C. and Colin Galinski spoke to a joint meeting of the Family Law - Vancouver Section and the Pension and Benefits Law Section about the new Family Law Act and its implications for pension division on marital breakdown.

Synopsis: Case law update – Petra and Lisa discussed three recent BC pension and benefit decisions relevant to the members of the Section.
Comments and Observations of the Chair
Our practice area is undergoing significant change right now with new pension standards legislation having been adopted, and regulations being drafted. It has been helpful to have the CBA Section as a vehicle through which these changes can be communicated to those who practice in the area but not as regularly as those who generally run the Section. I expect that the Section will be even more significant in 2013 and 2014 when the regulations are released and pension lawyers are expected to become familiar with entirely new and fairly technical legislation in a short time frame.
