Guest Speaker: Nathan Cullen, Member of Parliament, Skeena-Bulkley Valley
Synopsis: Lunch meeting with Nathan Cullen MP regarding upcoming amendments to the Criminal Code. Additional discussion on chronic underfunding of the justice system and lack of community resources to support offenders and their families. Staff shortages, including sheriffs, clerks, and lawyers were also noted.
Comments and Observations of the Chair
The Criminal Justice-Prince Rupert Section was formed in March 2011. The first meeting was orignially scheduled for April and had to be postponed a number of times due to scheduling conflicts.
We were finally able to have our first meeting on June 10, 2011, a lunch meeting with Nathan Cullen MP.
Given the newness of the subsection, there was no new appointment or election of a Section Executive.
Our next Section meeting will take place September 2011.
