Several candidates are vying for bencher position in the Law Society of BC.

The Aboriginal Lawyers Forum is making a concerted effort to promote Indigenous Candidates running in the upcoming Bencher Elections. The role of Bencher is a significant undertaking and responsibility and it is vital to have an Indigenous voice at the table.

The changes will avoid lawyers having to raise the issue only after incorrect titles or pronouns are used, and supports a shift in professional practice toward asking all people how they should be respectfully addressed.
