CBABC calls on the Supreme Court of BC to reinstate default case management of class actions.

CBABC considers that the Supreme Court rule on access to family law files requires no reform.

The CBABC Real Estate Committee responded to the BC Real Estate Association’s proposed changes to the Standard Form Contracts of Purchase and Sale. In particular, the committee recommended amendments to specify that GST be included in the purchase price.

CBABC supports the passing of Bill 13, Land Title and Property Law Amendment Act, 2024, but emphasized the need for continued meaningful consultation.

Update: CBABC recommendations incorporated into new BCLI report on artificial intelligence and civil liability

CBABC has delivered a submission to the Ministry of Attorney General responding to Phase 2 of the B.C. government’s review to finalize the Family Law Act.

"To be independent, lawyers must be self-regulated. This means that the board of the regulator must comprise a substantial lawyer majority that is elected by lawyers and through a process that reflects diverse voices, including Indigenous and racialized lawyers."

"Your comments could lead to the false impression that elected officials can give direction to judges or that judges should make decisions based on popular opinion. Such comments unjustifiably risk undermining public respect for and confidence in the justice system and the judiciary."

CBABC calls on the B.C. government to introduce legislation that prohibits NDAs related to claims of harassment or discrimination. 

CBABC calls for B.C government not to pass the newly introduced Legal Professions Act, until more consultation has been held.
