Supreme Court of BC: Criminal Jury Selection to be Conducted in One Stage

  • June 22, 2023

Commencing September 5, 2023, the Court will no longer use a two-stage process for the selection of criminal juries. As of that date, criminal jury selection will take place in one stage, usually on a single day.

COVID Notice No. 53 is accordingly rescinded effective September 5, 2023.

Counsel and self-represented accused persons with criminal jury selections scheduled to take place after September 5, 2023 can expect to hear from Supreme Court Scheduling with respect to any scheduling changes.

Criminal jury selections scheduled to take place before September 5, 2023, will proceed in two stages as described in COVID Notice No. 53, unless the presiding judge otherwise orders or directs.

THE FOREGOING IS SUBJECT TO CHANGE. ANY UPDATED DIRECTIONS WILL BE POSTED ON THE COURT’S WEBSITE.

Dated June 22, 2023 at Vancouver, British Columbia
