Subject: Concern regarding Bill 21

Dear (Insert name of MLA),

As a lawyer in British Columbia, I am concerned about the recently introduced Bill 21 – 2024, Legal Professions Act.

I belong to the Canadian Bar Association, BC Branch, which recently delivered a letter to the Attorney General, requesting the B.C. government slow the proceedings of this legislation to allow for more consultation.

There are over 130 pages of legislation in the Bill, including more than 300 clauses. This will significantly change legal services and the regulation of lawyers in B.C. Lawyers need more time to review and understand this legislation and consider how it will modernize our regulatory framework while maintaining lawyer independence, both of which are in the public interest.

I am asking you to make sure government does not pass this legislation during the spring legislative session.

Sincerely,
